Abstract

PURPOSE: To preheat the raw material ethylene dichloride, utilize the waste heat effectively and save the energy in the thermal decomposition of the ethylene dichloride to obtain vinyl chloride monomer, by utilizing the heat of an effluent from a thermal decomposition furnace.
CONSTITUTION: In the thermal decomposition of ethylene dichloride (EDC) to prepare vinyl chloride monomer, EDC before the charging into a decomposition furnace 23 is charged through a pressure-regulating valve 21 into the top of a heat exchanger 22 and made to flow down the interior thereof. An effluent from the decomposition furnace 23 is fed into the heat exchanger 22. EDC is then directly brought into contact with the effluent by the gas-liquid contact, preheated, taken out of the bottom, fed through a pump 24 to the decomposition furnace 23 and thermally decomposed.
EFFECT: The heat quantity fed to the decomposition furnace can be remarkably reduced. The cooling water need not be fed for cooling the effluent, and this method is advantageous.
