Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain sufficient mechanical strength eliminating quenching by winding a prepregnant tape over the outside surface and in the direction of radius of a pancake type coil and forming rigid spacers hardened by a heat and pressure treatment. CONSTITUTION:Around a bobbin 2 fixed on a coil stand 1, superconductor 3 is wound with interlayer insulation material to form a pancake type coil 8a by a heat and pressure treatment. A semihardened prepregnant tape 10 is wound around the coil 8a in the direction of radius at the several places radially. After winding the tape 10 preset turns, size adjusting spacers 11a, 11b are fitted inside and outside the coil 8a and firmly fixed by a pushing plate 12 and hardened by a heat and pressure treatment to make a rigid spacer 9. By this, the movement of the conductors 3 due to magnetic force is restricted. Moreover, the blocking of helium cooling passage and deterioration of cooling effects and quenching due to peeling off or slip at the bonded surface are prevented.
