Abstract

1,084,529. Transformers and inductors; electric coils. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. Dec. 24, 1964 [Dec. 30, 1963], No. 52486/64. Headings H1P and H1T. A superconductive winding for a transformer, reactor or electromagnet is formed by a thin layer of superconductive metal, compound or alloy 2 (Fig. 3) on a sheet or strip of insulating material 1 which is wound on itself to form a cylindrical or pancake coil. The insulating sheet 1 may carry alternate layers of non- superconductive material such as aluminium and superconductive material such as lead, niobium, niobium-zirconium or niobium tin and may be made of ethylene polyterephthalate. Current is led into and out of the coil by aluminium cylinders 3, 4. Two coils in series may be formed by suitable shaping of the insulating sheet (Fig. 5, not shown).
