Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance cooling efficiency, keep stability, and enable the device to be more compact, by providing an inter-layer spacer which is made thinner at the outside diameter than at the inside diameter of a coil corresponding to an eddy current loss produced between layers of super-conductive wire. CONSTITUTION:A super-conductive wire 2 is wound coaxially around a winding frame 1. An inter-turn insulator 3 is provided to insulate between the super- conductive wire 2 turns. Inter-layer spacers 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 are provided among layers of the super-conductive wire 2 to make thinner at the outside diameter than at the inside diameter of a coil. This makes cooling channels 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 formed among these inter-layer spacers and the layers narrower in the same direction and smaller in sectional area. The thickness of inter-layer spacer is determined by obtaining an eddy current loss produced in the super-conductive wire due to magnetic flux distribution of the coil in every layer unit, so that the void rate of liquid helium at the critical temperature of this wire material is wholly constant within all of the cooling channels.
