Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the toughness of the weld zone and the weld heat-affected zone of the resulting titled steel by providing a specified composition contg. C, Si, Mn, sol. Al and Ti as well as P, S and N in amounts reduced to the utmost and by regulating the carbon equiv.
CONSTITUTION: This steel for high heat input welding consists of 0.03W0.16% C, 0.01W0.7% Si, 0.7W1.7% Mn, ≤0.025% P, ≤0.015% S, 0.04W0.10% sol. Al, 0.001W0.012% Ti, ≤0.004% T.N and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities while holding the relation represented by expressionI. The steel may further contain one or more among ≤0.50% Cu, ≤1.5% Ni, ≤1.0% Cr, ≤0.5% Mo and ≤0.06% V. The carbon equiv. represented by expression II is regulated to ≥0.33. When this steel is welded with ≥100 kJ/cm high heat input per single layer, the heat-affected zone has a structure composed of proeutectoid ferrite and a transitional structure, and it is provided with superior toughness.
