Abstract
PURPOSE: To develop a steel for a welded structure with superior toughness and weld crack resistance in its weld heat-affected zone by adding Ti to a Nb-contg. steel and specifying the ratio of the C, N and Nb contents of the steel to control formation of island martensite.
CONSTITUTION: The title steel contains C; 0.05W0.08%, Si; 0.10W0.50%, Mn; 1.20W2.50%, Nb; 0.005W0.07%, Ti; 0.005W0.03% and Al 0.005W0.06% or further contains one or more out of Cu<0.5%, Ni<1.5%, Cr,0.5%, Mo<0.6%, V<0.1%, B<0.003%, Ce<0.02% and Ca<0.003%, satisfying C%+10×N%≤ 0.12% and Nb×(C%+10×N%)≤4×10-3. In the steel, island martensite formed in its weld heat-affected zone is controlled to 15% of the total area, and the steel for a welded structure has a tensile strength of 40W80 kg/mm2 and superior toughness and weld crack resistance in its weld head-affected zone.
