Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a high tensile steel with superior yield strength and superior sulfide corrosion crack resistance by subjecting steel contg. Mn and Co or further contg. special added elements to hardening and tempering.
CONSTITUTION: To steel contg. 0.05W0.50% C and 0.10W1.0% Si are added 0.1W2.0% Mn for enhancing the hardenability, strength and toughness of the steel and 0.05W1.50% Co as an element for enhancing the sulfide corrosion crack resistance and corrosion resistance of the steel. To the steel may further be added 0.10W 0.50% Cu, 0.20W2.0% Cr, 0.05W1.0% Mo, 0.05W1.0% W, 0.01W0.15% Nb, 0.01W0.15% V, 0.01W0.15% Ti and 0.0003W0.0050% B. The resulting high tensile steel is used to construct the weld zones of an oil well pipe, a line pipe or an LPG tank, and by subjecting the zones to perfect hardening and sufficient tempering, a tempered martensite structure is formed to impart ≥60kg/mm2 yield strength and superior sulfide corrosion crack resistance.
