Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a deterioration of a medium carbon carburizing steel for a track bush in the tube formability and forgeability and enhance the endurance of a product track bush by adding a specified very small amount of B to the steel without adding alloying elements such as Cr and Mo.
CONSTITUTION: Each track bush of railroad vehicles is made of medium carbon carburizing steel contg. 0.28W0.40% C, 0.15W0.35% Si, 0.60W1.70% Mn, < 0.03% Ti and 0.0005W0.0030% B. The steel is carburized at 930°C for 42hr to enhance the wear resistance of the bush. The contained B enhances the hardenabrlity of the steel by twice and increses the strength of the core part. A full martensite structure is formed, resulting in improved toughness and lower crack propagation sensitivity. In addition, the cold forgeability is enhanced, and the productivity is improved.
