Abstract

PURPOSE: To cheaply manufacture the title steel by reducing the C content of steel; minimizing the amt. of precipitation hardening elements such as Cr, Mo and V added; and adding Ti and B to lower the softening resistance at the time of tempering as well as to ensure the strength.
CONSTITUTION: A refined high strength steel contg. C 0.03W0.08%, Si 0.10W 0.08%, Mn 0.70W2.0%, P<0.03%, S<0.02%, Cr<0.10%, Mo<0.05%, V< 0.015%, Ti 0.005W0.04%, Al 0.005W0.08%, B 0.0005W0.005% and N2 0.003W 0.015% and having an yield strength of 46W56kg/mm2 is water-hardened from the austenitization temp. zone, thereby converting a surface layer into of martensite structure and most of other part into of bainite structure. Since this steel has low softening resistance, it is tempered at a relatively high temp. between 630°C and the Ac1 transformation point to lower the surface hardness to a Vickers hardness of 210 or less. Thus, sulfide corrosion cracking of the steel is prevented.
