Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a high-toughness low-alloy high-speed tool steel with high temper hardness and a high Charpy impact value by combinedly adding C, Si, Mo, W, V, Nb and N to steel.
CONSTITUTION: The tool steel contains C 0.45W0.55%, Si 0.8W1.5%, Cr 3.0W 5.0%, W+Mo/2 1.25W2.0%, V 0.5W1.0%, Nb 0.1W0.3%, N 0.03W0.10% and Mn<0.6%. Since the austenite grains of this steel slowly grow even in a slow heating furnace such as an atmosphere heat hardening furnace or a vacuum heat hardening furnace, the mechanical properties are not deteriorated. In a usual rapid heating system such as salt bath, the steel also exhibits superior toughness and machinability.
