Abstract

PURPOSE: To remarkably enhance the toughness of the welded joint bond zone of the resulting titiled steel and its vicinity at low temp. by providing a specified composition contg. C, Si, Mn, sol. Al and Ti as well as P, S and N in amounts reduced to the utmost.
CONSTITUTION: This Alkilled steel for low temp. use suitable for submerged are welding with a large distance between electrodes consists of 0.03W0.12% C, 0.01W0.5% Si, 0.7W1.7% Mn, ≤0.025% P, ≤0.010% S, 0.040W0.080% sol. Al, 0.001W0.010% Ti, ≤0.0040% total N and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The steel may further contain one or more among ≤0.5% Cu, ≤1.5% Ni, ≤1.0% Cr and ≤0.5% Mo. When this steel is subjected to tandem type submerged arc welding with 300W1,000mm distance between electrodes and ≤70 KJ/cm heat input every electrode, the toughness of the bond zone and its vicinity at low temp. is enhanced remarkably besides the toughness of the base metal.
