Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the stability and life of a double-ply pipe tuyere for bottom blowing of oxygen by mixing a very small amt. of an inert gas or gaseous CO2 with pure oxygen to be blown through the inside pipe of said tuyere. CONSTITUTION:Industrial pure oxygen mixed with a very small amt. of a diluting gas which is an inert gas such as Ar of N2 or gaseous CO2 is blown through the inside pipe consisting in general of stainless steel of the above-mentioned double-ply pipe tuyere for blowing a cooling medium through the outside pipe, whereby pig iron is refined. The rate of mixing the diluting gas with the oxygen is <=10% volume ratio. By the inclusion of the diluting gas, the ignition and combustion of the stainless steel forming the inside pipe by the blowing of pure oxygen in the presence of iron are prevented or suppressed, and the stable operation and refining effect are achieved.
