Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the transfer efficiency and to prevent blooming phenomenon, by transferring excessive charge and bias charge altogether, in transferring the excessive charge from vertical signal lines to a charge absorbing section. CONSTITUTION:A bias charge injecting section consisting of an input device 9, horizontal charge coupling device 8 and transfer gate 10 is provided. A prescribed amount of bias charge is injected from the input device 9 to the horizontal charge coupling device 8. At a horizontal blanking period, this bias charge is transferred to the vertical signal line 2 via the gate 10. This bias charge is summed with an excessive charge at the line 2 and the bias charge and the excessive charge are transferred to the charge absorbing section 11 for absorption via a control gate 12. Thus, since bias charge is used as transfer, the transfer efficiency is increased and no excessive charge is mixed in the signal charge. Thus, blooming phenomenon is prevented.
