Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an electrode and a material from being damaged, by displaying the difference of the position of the electrode during machining and the deepest value, estimating the state of swarf deposited to the machining gap, stopping the machining before the electric discharge shift to steady arc, and cancelling the steady arc. CONSTITUTION:The electrode 10 and the material 12 are energized by an electric source unit 18. A hydraulic servo controller 20 processes a signal from the unit 18 to supply a control signal to a hydraulic cylinder 22 so that by the vertical movement of a hydraulic spindle 24 the electrode 10 is moved up and down. An electrode position detector 26 that cooperates with the spindle 24 to detect the position of the electrode during the machining, and the position signal from the detector 26 is fed to a memory circuit 28 for storing the deepest value of the electrode and also to an arithmetic circuit 30. The signal from the circuit 30 is supplied to a display device 32 to display the difference of the position of the electrode and the deepest value.
