Abstract

PURPOSE:To avoid ill-balanced surface machined on ends of a roll, and to prevent accidents such as a collision of electrode with the roll, by allowing electric machining conditions for making the roll surface desirably roughened to be switched to weak electric discharge conditions. CONSTITUTION:A pace table 6 can be horizontally slided on a bed 1 by operation of a column transversing driving means 7 and a feeding screw 8. A number of the electrodes 11, 11' are attached to electrode holders 10, 10' with them equi- pitched, and face the roll 3 with a machining gap therebetween. Electric discharges are caused between the electrodes 11 and the roll 3 through pulse electric source apparatuses 15, 15'. A controller 16 detects the ends of the roll through a detector or a preset value, electric machining conditions for making the roll surface desirably roughened under machining conditions of end electrodes are suitably switched to very weak electric discharge conditions, and its command is fed to the electric source apparatus 15' for the machining pulse.
