Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the consumption of an electrode through the displacement of the end thereof by fixing a plate for detecting the position of the end of the electrode to the proximity of a position to be machined and having the electrode opposed to the plate before and after the electrospark machining. CONSTITUTION:Before the electrospark machining is started, an electrode 12 is moved horizontally from the machining position opposed to a workpiece 10 as shown by the broken line 200, located and stopped at a position in which it is opposed to a detecting plate 16. Under such condition an electrode 12 has its end moved close to a detecting plate 16 and the position of the end before the work is measured through the feed of a feeder. Next, the electrode 12 is again moved horizontally to the machining position of a workpiece 10 to start the electrospark machining. After the machining, the end position of electrode 12 is measured in the same way as before the machining. The consumption of electrode is detected through the change of the end position.
