Abstract

PURPOSE: To perfectly prevent the unfavorable influence of water in an upper starting material on the sintering of a lower starting material without deteriorating the gas permeability in a multistage firing system sintering method by interposing a heat absorbing and moisture condensing material between starting material charged layers.
CONSTITUTION: Fine iron ore is fed to a DL type sintering machine 1 in a plurality of stages while interposing a heat absorbing and moisture condensing material 1 from a hopper 5 in a prescribed thickness. The surfaces of the starting material charged layers are fired with firing furnaces 4, 7 to allow combustion to proceed simultaneously at the lower and upper stages. Thus, 2 combustion zones 9-1, 9-2 are formed, and as combustion proceeds, water in the upper starting material enters hot gas forced to be sucked and moves to the lower starting material charged layer. Moisture in the gas is, however, condensed with the material 11. Accordingly, the unfavorable influence of water in the upper starting material on the sintering of the lower starting material charged layer is prevented.
