Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the pellet calcining cost by introducing a hot gas of low oxygen concn. from an upper part of a heating section to heat raw pellets contg. a specified amount of coke to a temp. where the pellets are not burned.
CONSTITUTION: Raw pellets M contg. 1W10% coke besides iron ores are prepared. Pellets M are carried to drying section 21 with grate 20 and dried by introducing a hot gas upward from the bottom of grate 20. Dried pellets M are then heated to ≥ about 800°C with a hot gas in heating section 22. At this time, the gas is desired to be slightly short in oxygen not to ignite pellets M, and low oxygen auxiliary fuel G is introduced from an upper part to restrict the oxygen concn. to <10%. Heated pellets M enter calcining section 23, where the coke ignites by feeding a hot gas and raising the oxygen concn., and pellets M are calcined at about 1,200W1,350°C. Fired pellets M are successively cooled in primary cooling section 24 and secondary cooling section 25 and taken out as product pellets P.
