Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the input power factor of a DC power source by connecting a switch in series with a smoothing condenser, and closing it when the output voltage of a full-wave rectifier is lower than a reference voltage set lower than the peak value of the output. CONSTITUTION:An AC power source 1 is rectified by a full-wave rectifier 2, a smoothing condenser 5 is connected across the outputs of the rectifier, thereby operating an inverter 3. A transistor 6 is connected through a choke coil 10 in series with the condenser 5, thereby controlling ON or OFF the transistor 6 and a control circuit 9. Accordingly, the output of the control circuit 9 conducts the transistor 6 when it is lower than the reference voltage set lower than the peak value of the output voltage, and interrupts the transistor when it is higher than that, thereby shortening the pausing time of the input current from an AC power source 1 and reducing the peak value as a whole. Thus, the input power factor of the power source can be improved.
