Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce generation of smoke and improve the engine output and the fuel cmbustion efficiency by providing a spiral groove around the lower internal surface of the auxiliary combustion chamber which is connected to the main combustion chamber. CONSTITUTION:The main combustion chamber 4 and the auxiliary combustion chamber 5 are connected by a hole 9. A spiral groove 11 is engraved around the lower internal surface 10 of the auxiliary combustion chamber 5. In addition to a main whirl pool 12, small vortexes 15 are produced along the direction of spiral of the spiral groove 11 during the compression stage of the piston 3. As a result, the air and fuel mixture in the auxiliary chamber is made uniform across the whole space of the chamber resulting in reduced generation of smoke. Thus, the smoke limit can be extended, and the engine output and the fuel economy improved.
