Abstract

PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a mold through prevention of local concentration of thermal stresses in mold walls by adhering a long heat sensitive magnetic material like a belt to the mold wall, and installing molten steel level detecting coils which can move vertically with respect to this. CONSTITUTION:A bandlike temp. sensitive magnetic material 2 is provided in adhesion to the cooling water side of the wall of a mold 1, and detecting coils 3, 4, 5 are provided opposite to this. The total value of the length l1 between the coils 3, 4, the length l2 between 4, 5, and the moving width L1 of the set value is the length of the material 2. The meniscus of the temp. distribution of the wall of the mold 1 is detected by moving the coils 3, 4, 5 vertically. Thereby, the wall signals corresponding to the positions of the meniscus and the coils 3, 4, 5 are obtained in any position of the coils 3, 4, 5 in the part where the material 2 is adhered and therefore the setting of the control level is changed easily by moving the coils 3, 4, 5.
