Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare high purity cephapyrine with high yield, by adding tertiary amine to a mixture of 7-aminocephalosporanic acid ester and alkali metallic salt of 4-pyridylthioacetic acid and allowing these components to react. CONSTITUTION:Tertiary amine is added to a mixture of 7-aminocephalosporane protected carboxyl radial in a form of ester, alkali metallic salt of 4-pridyl- thioacetic acid and 1-substituted-2-halopyridinium salt to allow to react, thereafter, a protective radical of carboxyl radical is eliminated. A compound shown by the general formula[in the formula, R1 is a lower alkyl radical, benzyl radical or phenacyl radical, X is a halogen atom, Y is a halogen atom, R2-SO4 (R2 is lower alkyl radical) or a R3-SO4(R3 is a phenyl radical which may be substituted by a methyl radical)]is used for said 1-substituted-2-halopyridinium salt and adding quantity of tertiary amine is suitable to be nearly an equivalent mol to 7-aminocephalosporanic acid.
