Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a high tensile hot rolled steel plate having a high degree of low-temp. toughness and strength by rolling a continuously cast steel slab of specific composition for pipelines under controlled temp. conditions and limiting the air cooling time in a low temp. region during rolling stage. CONSTITUTION:Steel contg. <=0.15% C, <=0.70% Si, 0.50-2.50% Mn, <=0.025% P, <=0.005% S, 0.010-0.150% Nb, <=0.070% Al, and if necessary, >=1 kind of limited amts. of V, Ti, Zr, Mo, Cu, Ni, Cr, REM, Ca is continuously cast to a slab of the thickness from 300mm. up to 3 times the thickness of the final product. Such slab is held hot or is heated and is roughly rolled at the point of 1,000- 750 deg.C surface temps., and the finish rolling is completed at Ar3-650 deg.C. During this rolling, the sum total of the air cooling time while not in rolling at >=750 deg.C is suppressed at <=60sec. By such rolling conditions, the high tensile steel plate suited for pipelines for cold climatic districts is obtained.
