Abstract

PURPOSE:To accelerate the reduction of steam pressure in a luminous tube and to shorten restarting time by a method wherein a projection is provided in a portion of the luminous tube and a heating body for suitably heating the projection during the time of which an electric discharge lamp is turned on. CONSTITUTION:Main electrodes 2, 3 are arranged on both sides and a projection 13 is provided in a portion, for instance, the central portion of a luminous tube 1. A heating body 14 connected across the main electrode 3 and a lead wire 9 is wound on the projection 13. The desired amount of mercury and a suitable amount of an iodid of scandium and sodium, argon gas for helping starting and the like are enclosed in the luminous tube 1, while lead wires 8, 9 each are connected with a lighting apparatus 11. By so doing, the steam pressure in the luminous tube is increasingly reduced and restarting time can be shortened.
