Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce a time required for a start of electric discharge, by providing heating bodies in the inside of a luminous tube and heating said heating bodies with the conduction of an electric current at the time of starting. CONSTITUTION:Main electrodes 2, 3 are arranged in the both ends of a luminous tube 1 sealed with a required amount of mercury and argon of auxiliary start gas, then filaments 5, 6 consisting of tungsten are connected to the main electrodes 2, 3 respectively. The main electrodes 2, 3 are connected to a lighting starter device 12 through lead wires 8, 9 respectively. Further the filaments 5, 6 are connected to a heating circuit built in the starter device 12 through lead wires 10, 11 respectively. The filaments 5, 6 are to be heated by an electric current from the heating circuit only for several minutes till every characteristic is stabilized when a lamp is started, and the heating of the filament causes mercury vapor pressure in the inside of the luminous tube 1 to rise, thus a stable state of electric discharge of high pressure mercury can be obtained between the main electrodes 2, 3.
