Abstract

CONSTITUTION:Main electrodes 2, 3 are arranged in a silicon light emission tube 1 of a metal halide lamp while a filament 5 made of tungsten is connected to the main electrode 2, and the leading edge section D of the filament 5 is brought in + or -5mm. from the leading edge section A to the encapsulating section E of the electrode 2. Then the main electrodes 2, 3 and the filament 5 are connected through a ballast 12 having a heating circuit to a power source 13. Consequently when restarting under the mercury vapor pressure higher than 100 Tor, the voltage is applied between the electrodes 2, 3 while heating the electrode 2 by means of a filament 5 the starting of discharge is facilitated and the restarting time is shortened.
