Abstract

PURPOSE:To enlarge valve overlap in order to improve the full load operation performance of an exhaust turbine supercharger by disposing a backward flow reducing throttle pipe having a small diameter part at a connection of an exhaust port and exhaust pipe etc. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust gas generated in a combustion chamber 4 during operation of the engine flows from an exhaust port 8 into an exhaust pipe 13 via a throttle valve 18 in an exhaust stroke opened by an exhaust valve. In the exhaust pipe 13, the throttle pipe 18 has at its inlet side large diameter part 24 forming a smooth continuous line with the inner diameter surface of the exhaust port 8; on its way a tapered part 25; and at its lower end part a small diameter part 26. Owing to the above-mentioned constitution, the backward flow of the exhaut gas toward a cylinder side can be prevented. Consequently, even when a valve overlap is set wide to some extent, backward flow of the exhaust gas can be prevented and by so-wided valve overlap gas exchange in the cylinder in a high revolution area can be performed actively.
