Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive electrically conductive pigment useful for the antistatic treatment of a recording material, e.g. an electrophotographic material, or a high polymeric film, by applying an electrically conductive material consisting of indium oxide or tin oxide essentially to the surface of a pigment, and heating the resultant pigment.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of an indium compound, e.g. an aqueous solution of InBr3, an alcoholic solution of In(OH)3, a solution of In(IO3)3 in dilute sulfuric acid or a solution of 2In2O3.3SO2.8H2O in a dilute acid, is applied to the surface of a pigment, e.g. barytes powder, by the spraying, etc., and the resultant powder is then heated at preferably 400W850°C. Alternatively, a solution of a tin compound, e.g. an aqueous solution or alcoholic solution os SnCl2, an alcoholic solution of Sn(OH)2 or an aqueous solution of SnSO4, is applied to the surface of the pigment, and the resultant pigment is then heated at preferably 400W1,100°C to give the aimed electrically conductive pigment.
