Abstract

PURPOSE: A reaction mixture between 5-fluorouracil and an isocyanate is concentrated and diluted with an aliphatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon which keeps itself liquid at room temperature to precipitate the high-purity titled compound used as a carcinostatic agent in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: 5-Fluorouracyl is carbamoylized with an isocyanate of formulaI (R is 3W8C alkyl) or a carbamoyl halide of formula II (X is halogen) to give a compound of formula III, e.g., 1-n-hexylcarbamoyl-5-fluorouracil wherein, after being separated, the reaction mixture is diluted with a hydrocarbon which keeps itself liquid at room temperature to precipitate the objective compound for separation. The above hydrocarbon is preferably of 5W8 carbon atoms, such as n-hexane or ligroin.
