Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an A/D converter having the unexpensive squaring characteristics with a simple constitution, by applying the input voltage to the input of an integrator for a certain period of time and in different time cycles and then converting the input voltage into a digital quantity after counting it by a counter. CONSTITUTION:The input voltage -VIN and the reference voltage VREF are applied to an integrator 1 through analog switches SW1 and SW2 respectively. A voltage comparator 2 detects the zero cross of the output VO of the integrator 1, and the output of detection is applied to a timing control circuit 3. The circuit 3 works on the clock C1 of an oscillating circuit 4 to control a counter 51 as well as inputs A1 and A2 at one side of analog switches SW1 and SW2 plus AND gates G1 and G2 respectively. The output N1 of the counter 51 is applied as the input of a divider 61, and the output D of the divider 6 is applied to a counter 52 that counts the squared value.
