Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the charge and discharge characteristic of a lithium electrode by using a mixture of propylene carbonate and tetrahydrofuran as an organic solvent of a nonaqueous electrolyte for a secondary battery.
CONSTITUTION: A lithium negative electrode, a positive electrode capable of a second order reaction, and a nonaqueous electrolyte are used. The nonaqueous electrolyte consists of an inorganic or organic solute dissolved in a mixed solvent of propylene carbonate and tetrahydrofuran. The positive electrode is made of V2O5, TiO2, TiS2, WS2, etc. The solute is an inorganic salt, such as LiClO4, LiBF4, etc., or an organix salt, such as CF3SO3Li, CF3COOLi, etc., and a density of 0.5 to 2.5N is suitable. A mixture ratio of about 4:6, by volume, is suitable for mixing propylene carbonate and tetrahydrofuran. Accordingly, an electrolyte for a lithium secondary battery is obtained, which has n improved charge and discharge characteristic of the lithium electrode and high conductivity of Li ions.
