Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a fiber bundle for optical purposes which transmits light with good efficiency and is not aged on long-term continuous use by bundling plural pieces of optical fibers tightly and polishing the sections at both ends thereof to optically smooth surfaces. CONSTITUTION:Plural pieces of optical fibers bundled by a water flow bundling method, an in-liquid bundling method, etc. (e.g.; those which consist of cores of lead glass and clads of potash glass and have about 0-1 chemical resistance, about 400-800 dB transmittance and about 450kg tensile strength) are contained in a tube and are held therein (where about a 25mm. end part is held exposed to the outside of the tube). Next, both end parts of the optical fibers (exposed parts) are secured with an adhesive, after which the sections at the ends of the fiber bundle are polished to the optically smooth surfaces of which the optical transmittance is 50-60/mm.<2> average incident light and exit light. Thence, the adhesive is dissolved away with a solvent, after which the fiber bundle is coiled to a product.
