Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable an optical fiber cable to be used in wide range or severe temp. surroundings with high reliability by using a resin of the same kind as the clad material of the optical fibers as a material for binding an optical fiber bundle. CONSTITUTION:Core glass 6 is covered with polymer clad 7, a plurality of the resulting optical fibers are bundled to form optical fiber bundle 4, and connector 3 is attached to an end portion of bundle 4. At this time, resin 8 of the same kind as the clad material is coated onto an end portion of the optical fiber cable to bind the fibers and hardened by heating to form bundle 4, which is then put into connector 3. After coating liquid resin 8 onto an end portion of the fibers, bundle 4 may be covered with heat shrinkable tube 9, followed by heat shrinkage of the tube and hardening of the resin. By this method the packing density of the optical fibers is enhanced, and the efficiency of coupling the bundle and an element is raised.
