Abstract

PURPOSE:To prolong the life of repeating display, stabilize memory efficiency and realize high speed response by forming a high molecular electrochromic material like a specific film on a display electrode. CONSTITUTION:A filmlike high molecular material 7 with a functional group, which forms/deforms colors, on the main chains of the high molecules shown by formulas I to III (R is 1-10C alkylene or phenylene: X is a functional group forming/deforming colors when voltage is applied: n is a positive integer indicating the degree of polymerization) is formed on a display electrode 2 composed of a metallic film such as SnO2 which is attached to a substrate 1. The substrate 1 is opposed against the substrate 1 attaching an opposed electrode 3 through a spacer 4 and a white background 6 and electrolyte material 5 are enclosed inside the space between substrates. Thus, the functional group forming/deforming colors is fixed on the display electrode, making it possible to obtain stable memory efficiency and select optional group for forming/deforming colors.
