Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a display element with the characteristics such as polychroism, high-speed response and long life by forming a filmlike specific polychromic electrochromic display material on a display electrode. CONSTITUTION:An electrochromic material 7 obtained by covalent-bonding 2 kinds of electrochromic substances and more whose color forming/deforming potential and display colors are different each other with the main chain or side chain of a macromolecule is formed like a film on a display electrode 2 attached to a base plate 1. The base plate 1 is opposed against a base plate 1 attaching an opposed electrode 3 through a spacer 4 and an electrolyte solution 6 including a redox component is enclosed inside the space between base plates 1s. Since the electrochromic substance is fixed in the film formed on the display electrode, the speed of the action to form/ deform colors is controlled in the process of load transfer and the display with the high speed response of 1 to 5msec can be realized.
