Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the response speed of an optical switch by applying light from an optical fiber selectively to another optical fiber through a reflector whose angle is varied by electromagnetic force. CONSTITUTION:A reflector 22 is hung down vertically with a metallic suspension wire 23 and connected with a movable coil 24. A magnet 25 is arranged on the circumference of the movable coil 25. When power with single polarity which has been previously set up is supplied to the movable coil 24, the coil 24 is inclined to the side of focusing lens 19 by the electromagnetic force generated between the coil 24 and the magnetic field of magnet 25 and the light generated from an optical fiber 12 is reflected by the reflection 22 through a focusing lens 18 and applied to an optical fiber 16 through the focusing lens 19. The constitution of the optical switch makes it possible to conduct light generated from an optical fiber to another optical fiber through the reflector whose angle is varied by electromagnetic force, increasing the response speed of the optical switch.
