Abstract

PURPOSE: To lower the noise produced by a burner, by providing a conical flame retainer which is formed with many small holes in a single or a plurality of rows at small pitches at the top end portion of the flame retainer located away from a nozzle.
CONSTITUTION: Many small holes 4 are formed in a conical flame retainer 5 in a single or a plurality of rows, at its top end portion located away from a nozzle 2. Fuel sprayed from the nozzle 2 is mixed with air ejected from the small holes 4 of the flame retainer 4 and burnt by the aid of air. Here, since particles of fuel sprayed from the nozzle 2 are preheated by the heat of flame while they reach the region where flame is formed, the sizes of fuel particles are generally made small and uniform. Therefore, combustion speed of the fuel particles is rendered uniform and variation in the density of combustion gas is minimized, so that the noise produced by combustion can be lowered.
