Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce high tensile steel for welded construction having superior cold workability and low temp. toughness and a low yield ratio by subjecting low carbon steel contg. a small amt. of Nb as a basic component to a specific heat treatment and hot rolling.
CONSTITUTION: The steel contains 0.03W0.15% C, 0.03W0.60% Si, 0.5W2.5% Mn, <0.06% sol.Al, and 0.005W0.10% Nb, and further, if necessary, 1 or ≥2 kinds of <0.15% V, <0.5% Ni, <0.5% Cr, <0.5% Cu, and <0.5% Mo. In blooming this ingot, it is cooled down to below 500°C by making the rate of cooling after the end of the rolling higher than that of air cooling. Or it is heated from below the Ac1 point up to an Ac3W950°C temp. region without this pretreatment, and is subjected to hot rolling at ≥40% cumulative draft in the temp. range of said temp.W (Ar3 point-40°C), after which it is quickly cooled, whereby the high tensile steel for welded construction having superior cold workability and low temp. toughtness and a low yield ratio is produced.
