Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substances advantageously, by reacting acetic ester of 1,4-butanediol with water, decomposing high-boiling substances formed as a by-product into tetrahydrofuran (THF), treating the deactylated and cyclized reaction product with the THF, and circulating the remaining high-boiling substances through the hydrolyzing step.
CONSTITUTION: Acetic ester of 1,4-butanediol and water are fed from pipes 1 and 2 to the first reactor (A), and a high-boilihg circulating solution is introduced from a pipe 14 into the first reactor (A) to carry out the reaction. Water and acetic acid are removed in the first distilling column (C), and a distillate containing the unreacted ester, partial hydrolyzate and butanediol partially is fed from the top of the second distilling column (D) to an isomeric separating column (E) and then led to the second reactor (G). The bottoms from the second distilling column (D) are separated into a diol (pipe 10) and high-boiling substances in the third distilling column (F). The resultant high-boiling substances are decomposed into tetrahydrofuran (THF) in a high-boiling decomposing reactor (J), and the THF and the reaction product from the second reactor (G) are fed to the fourth distilling column (H) to give the TFH from the top of the fifth distilling column (I).
