Abstract
PURPOSE: After the unreacted starting materials has been distilled off from the ester- interchange product between lower alkyl acrylate or methacrylate and a dialkylaminoalkanol, the distillation of the product is effected while the temperature of the inner wall of the distiller is kept to a specific level, thus preventing the polymerization.
CONSTITUTION: The ester-interchange reaction is effected between alkyl acrylates or methacrylates of formula I (R1 is H, methyl; R2 is 1W4C alkyl) and a dialkylaminoalkanol of formula II (R3, R4 are 1W8 alkyl; Y is 2W4C alkylene) in the presence of a catalyst to form a dialkylaminoalkyl acrylate or methacrylate of formula III. The reaction mixture is distilled under reduced pressure at 60W140°C and unreacted starting materials are distilled off and recovered. Then, the mixture containing more than 90% of the acrylate or methacrylate is distilled under reduced pressure while the inner wall of the distiller is kept to 100°C and the distillate boiling at 60W100°C is collected, whereby the polymerization of the acrylate or methacrylate is avoided and purified methacrylate or acrylate is recovered as the distillate.
