Abstract

PURPOSE: To protect a compressor from surging, by providing an expansion chamber between the compressor and each intake port of an engine so that intake pulsation which occurs in each cylinder is damped in the expansion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: The upstream ends of intake pipes 11a extending from the intake ports 7a of cylinders 7 are conjointly coupled to an intake passage 11 which connects the intake pipes 11a to the outlet port 12a of a compressor 12. A single relatively- large expansion chamber 14 is provided in common for the upstream ends of the intake pipes 11a. Throttle valves 15 are installed in the intake pipes 11a. According to this constitution, intake pulsation which occurs in each cylinder 7 is damped by the expansion chamber 14 to protect the compressor 12 from surging. Since the throttle valves 15 are installed in the intake pipes 11a, the intake pulsation which occurs in each cylinder 7 does not act to the other cylinders 7.
