Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce back pressures against exhaust gas and improve the silencing effect by providing on the way of an exhaust passage a few interconnected ventilation units of which each includes several separate flow ducts between an inlet port and an outlet port.
CONSTITUTION: A ventilation unit 1 each of which has an inlet port 2 and an outlet port 3 is made of the substance with a high heat transfer rate, like aluminum alloy. Both ports 2, 3 are aligned through the same axis and connected by separate flow ducts 4a to 4d which are shaped between the ports in the form of streamlines different in length and meet with each other. A few ventilation units 1 constructed as mentioned are connected in the transverse direction to make up one ventilation passage 5. The ventilation passage 5 is provided on the way of an exhaust passage 8 of an engine 7 inside an automobile 6. Each unit 1 is secured at a position where it is easily exposed to an air flow produced during running of the automobile 6, along the lower section of a chassis, for example.
