USE: Intermediate for the preparation of 25,26-dihydrooxycholecalciferol which is a metabolic product of vitamin D3.
PROCESS: The compound of formulaIis prepared by reacting the steroid derivative of formula III with the compound of formula IV (X is halogen) pref. in the presence of a base such as alkali metal, etc., in an aprotic solvent such as tetrahydrofuran.
