NEW MATERIAL:A 1,4-dihydro-4-oxonicotinic acid derivative shown by the formula I [R1 and R4 are alkyl, (un)substituted heterocylcic group; R2 is H, alkali metal, or alkyl; R3 and R5 are the same as R1 and R3; R3 and R4 form -(CH2)n-(n is 3 or 4)].
EXAMPLE: Methyl-2,6-dimethyl-1,4-dihydro-4-oxonicotinate.
USE: An intermediate for an antibacterial compound (e.g., half synthetic penicillin, etc.) useful as a drug or agricultural chemical. A half synthetic penicillin has a strong antibracerial action.
PROCESS: A β-keto ester shown by the formula II (R6 is lower alkyl) is reacted with an enamine compound shown by the formula III under heating in an inert solvent in the presence of Molecular Sieves, to give a compound shown by the formula I.
