Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formulaI.
EXAMPLE: ( 1R,5S )-6, 6-Dimethyl-3-oxa-4(R)-[ 1(R)-4-oxo-2-cyclopentenyloxy ]bicyclo[3,1,0]-hexan-2-one.
USE: Synthetic intermediate of prostaglandin. Precursor of 4(R)- or 4(S)-hydroxy-2- cyclopenten-1-one having an optical purity of 100%.
PROCESS: The compound of formulaIis prepared by reacting the compound of formula II with the compound of formula III in the presence of an acidic agent or by dehydration. The acidic agent is preferably a weakly acidic compound, e.g. 0.1W0.3 equivalent of p-toluenesulfonic acid pyridine salt based on the compound of formula II. The dehydration is carried out either by the azeotropic decantation or by the use of a dehydrating agent such as magnesium sulfate, molecular sieve, etc.
