Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for reference rays by correcting the deviation of the offset characteristics of each infrared detecting element by finding the mean value of outputs signals of infrared detecting elements which correspond to selected areas in an optical scanning range and by using the value as the reference signal of each infrared detecting element. CONSTITUTION:Infrared rays R radiated from an image pickup object 1 are made incident to an infrared detector 2 to be converted into an electric signal, which is amplified 3 and then converted into a digital signal by an A/D converter 4. The digital signal from the converter 4 is processed as prescribed by an arithmetic circuit 5 to store a reference signal in a memory 6. The output of the arithmetic circuit 5 is converted by a D/A converter 7 into an analog signal, which is inputted to a display device 8 to display an infrared image on its display screen 8a.
