Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a prepreg with a low residual solvent content impregnated and coated with a desired amount of a resin, by mixing a thermosetting resin composition containing a polyfunctional maleimide as one component with a specific low-boiling solvent, and applying the resultant colloidal solution to a base material.
CONSTITUTION: 10W90wt% polyfunctional maleimide is dissolved in 10W90wt% thermosetting resin, e.g. bisphenol A epoxy resin, under heating or preliminarily reacted with and dissolved therein, and then mixed with a low-boiling solvent, e.g. a ketone such as acetone, having a boiling point preferably ≤140°C which is a bad solvent for the maleimide to form a colloidal resin solution. The resultant solution is then applied or impregnated into a reinforcing base material, e.g. a glass fibrous roving, and dried under heating to afford the aimed prepreg.
EFFECT: Reduced drying temperature and shortened drying time.
