Painting thickness controller in painted steel plate producing facilities

Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an adequate painting thickness control signal and perform suitable painting thickness control in a painted steel plate producing installation by detecting painting thickness by the utilization of infrared rays and at the same time generating an exclusion signal of the areas undesired to be employed by the utilization of visible rays.
CONSTITUTION: A steel plate 1 is fed to a lap drum type painting device 2, where a paint film 3 is formed on a steel plate surface. This film 3 is measured with a painting thickness detector constituted of an infrared ray light emitting device 4, a photodetector 5 and a lens 6. Two sets of these detectors are provided with the device 2 in between, the one for measuring the bare steel plate 1 and the other for the painted steel plate. The painting thickness is detected by utilizing infrared rays and at the dame time, the exclusion signal of the areas undesired to be employed is generated by utilizing visible rays, whereby the suitable painting thickness control is accomplished.
