Abstract

PURPOSE: To promote a reduction in liquid film fuel, fuel atomization and mixture formation, by arranging such that intake air is injected through an air pump into an intake port of an intake air device of fuel injection type, and water is injected from a nozzle provided downstream of the air pump under the control of a detecting signal from a knocking sensor.
CONSTITUTION: An air pump 18 is driven during operation of an engine 1, and therefore, intake air is fed from an intke pipe 11 through pipes 19, 17 and is then injected into an intake air port 6 through an air injecting port 16; Therefore, liquid film fuel adhered to the wall of the intake air port 6 is torn off and atomization of fuel injected through an injector 14 is promoted so that a suitable mixture is obtained. Further, a computer 33 energizes a solenoid coil 31 when a knocking sensor 34 detects knocking, and therefore a valve 23 opens for injecting water from a water tank 25 into intake air through a nozzle 21. Accordingly, water is introduced into a combustion chamber 5 so that the temperature of the combustion chamber 5 is lowered, thereby the occurence of knocking is suppressed.
