Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain Al with good toughness and abrasion resisting property by following method in which in the casting process of Al-Si alloy with specially determined composition, primary crystalline Si is caused to coagulate partially and to form abrasion resisting layers.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy made from 12W20wt% Si, 0.5W6.0wt% Cu, less than 0.8wt% Mg and almost residual Al is cast by centrifugal casting. By selecting the casting condition, primary crystalline Si crystallized corresponding to cooling of the alloy, is partially coagulated, and abrasion resisting layers made of hyper- eutectic Si-Al are formed, but the residual parts remain as eutectic Si-Al. Consequently, the Al-alloy with light weight and abrasion resisting property, is produced, and it is suitable for the cylinder lines of a combustion engine of an automobile.
